The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on Friday, that Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will visit Cairo on Saturday to hold talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry.
The visit will be the first by a Turkish foreign minister to Egypt in a decade.
Spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Abu Zaid, said that the Turkish minister’s visit is “an inauguration of the path of restoring normal relations between the two countries, and launching an in-depth dialogue on various aspects of bilateral relations and regional and international issues of common concern.”
He added that the visit aims to “reach a common understanding that achieves the interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.”
The spokesman revealed that Shoukry will receive his Turkish counterpart in a bilateral meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Tahrir Palace in central Cairo, to be followed by extensive discussions in the presence of the delegations of the two countries, after which a joint press conference will be held.
Shoukry visited Turkey in late February and met with Cavusoglu, to show solidarity with Ankara, which was hit by a devastating earthquake that killed tens of thousands and displaced millions.
