On Saturday, the Northern Lights could be seen in much of the United States and Europe

On Saturday, October 30, the Northern Lights could be seen in a large part of the United States and Europe, if the weather is in line with its visibility, CNN reports.

There was a big flare on the Sun on Thursday, October 28, and it is expected that on Saturday, October 30, it will reach Earth and could cause a strong geomagnetic storm, as well as make the Northern Lights visible in the United States and Europe.

The U.S. National Meteorological Service’s laboratory and service center, the Space Weather Forecasting Center (NOAA), issued a warning about the G3 or “powerful” geomagnetic storm clock on Saturday, October 30, and Sunday, October 31. The strength of the geomagnetic storm scale is determined from G1 or small storm to G5, which is an extreme storm.

A forecasted geomagnetic storm over the weekend could cause voltage disturbances and false alarms in some protection devices, warns NOAA. It can also cause high frequency radio interruptions and loss of radio contact on the sunlit side of the Earth.

The most noticeable effect of the forthcoming geomagnetic storm is that it is likely to charge the polar light, making it visible in much of the United States and Europe.

The Aurora forecast from the University of Alaska’s Fairbanks Institute of Geophysics suggests that if the weather is good, the Northern Lights could be seen in the United States, from Portland in Oregon to New York. It could also be seen on the horizon up to Carson City, Nevada, Oklahoma City, and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Forecasts suggest that in Europe, the Northern Lights may be seen in the skies over all of Norway, Sweden and Finland, as well as stretching to Scotland and St Petersburg, Russia. The celestial phenomenon could also be seen in the Irish capitals of Dublin and Hamburg, Germany.

Forecasts show that the Northern Lights will also stretch to the horizon, from Melbourne in Australia to Christchurch in New Zealand.
