For example, last year, 4,071 people or an average of 11 road users per day were injured in traffic accidents in Latvia.
On Saturday, 13 people were injured in accidents in and around Riga, seven in Zemgale, four in Kurzeme and three in Vidzeme. One of the victims was a pedestrian, but six were cyclists, including three of them in accidents in Riga.
Yesterday, the police detained 15 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol: six in Zemgale, three in Kurzeme and Vidzeme, two in Riga and its surroundings, and one in Latgale.
158 protocols have been drawn up for speeding drivers. In the vicinity of Riga, 26 drivers have been fined for violating the permitted driving speed, in Kurzeme – 47, in Zemgale – 42, in Vidzeme – 32, but in Latgale – 11 drivers.
In total, the police drew up 342 reports on traffic violations yesterday.
