On Sunday, on Mother’s Day, an initiative group of mothers of mobilized and conscripted military personnel and the Feminist Resistance Against War Movement published a letter sent to the chairman of the Federation Council’s Social Policy Committee, the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Affairs, Women and Children and members of such committees.
The letter was also supported by activists of the pacifist movement “Vesna” (Spring), specifies the Russian edition of the BBC.
The signatories urge, inter alia, withdraw troops from Ukraine, bring all soldiers home and to prevent conscripts from participating in hostilities,
“Military actions are always a disaster, no matter how they are officially called. It is bloodshed, violence, humiliation of human dignity, contempt for freedoms and human rights. We are appalled by this, what is happening. We are against the participation of our sons, brothers, husbands, fathers, we ourselves do not want to participate in them – among women there are doctors subject to military service. You, who must protect the rights and freedoms of mothers and children, must not close your eyes to all of this”, reads the letter.
The authors of the message call on all mothers in Russia to support the appeal.
“Feminist Anti-War Resistance” (FAS) is an association of Russian feminists founded in February 2022 to coordinate protests against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The movement has its own Telegram page.
