We are not pessimists either, and we enjoy and celebrate: poetry and music, Veidenbaum’s 154th birthday and 61 years since the founding of the RTU men’s choir “Gaudeamus”. The central event of the celebration will be the fruit of the collaboration between the choir “Gaudeamus” and “Pērkona” – the cantata “The breast waves in love” with the words of Eduards Veidenbaums, “says composer Juris Kulakovs.
Kulakov’s night on the Roja open-air stage on August 21 will start at 18:00, when the traditional guests of the festival will perform – “Three Latvian Tenors” – with Juris Kulakov folk song arrangements and classical opera hits, the band “Menuets”, as well as the Culture Palace “Ziemeļblāzma” wind orchestra “Fanfara” (conductor Mārcis Miķelsons).
The main event of Kulakov’s night – the concert performance “A true philosopher is not a pessimist” – will start at 20:30. In the 1st part of the RTU men’s choir “Gaudeamus” and the group “Pērkons” will be interpreted by Juris Kulakov’s cantata “Breast in Waves”. It was with this composition that the choir “Gaudeamus” planned to celebrate its 60th anniversary last May, but due to the restrictions of the pandemic, it did not happen. The choir’s artistic director and conductor Ivars Cinkuss points out: “It has been more than ten years since this thoughtfully uplifting cantata was created in cooperation with Juri and the group” Pērkons “. It is amazing how relevant these poems and music are still! ”
In the second part of the concert performance, the group “Iron Wolf” and the group of young rock musicians “Sānuielas zēni” will perform. There will be both Veidenbaum’s inspirational poetry, versions of the legendary cycle “Songs of the Seven and a Half with the Words of Eduard Veidenbaum” by the composer Juris Kulakovs, and the musicians’ own original compositions.
Of course, Kulakov’s night is unimaginable without the charged and dynamic show of the group “Thunder”. The legendary band will take the stage shortly after midnight.
Kulakov’s night tradition was established in 2015, and the first festival took place in Ogre, marking 30 years since the performance of the historical group “Thunder” on the Ogre stage on July 6, 1985, when the group’s fans flocked to the existing communist system and possibly , provoked by provocateurs, mutilated two passenger train cars. Since then, the festival has visited the wind city of Liepaja, the Concert Hall “Cesis”, Juris Kulakov’s native Livani and Ikšķile stage.
Entrance to the concert – upon presentation of a certificate confirming the complete completion of vaccination against Covid-19 or Covid-19, as well as an identity document.
