On history in the language of design – there will be a “Design Walk” / Article

In the shadow of the nearby war events, the third “Design Walk” organized by the “SEGD Riga Chapter” is dedicated to the relationship between design and history, which is particularly highlighted by the venue of the event: the Latvian Occupation Museum. The event program includes eight design walks in the recently opened “Road to Light” exhibition with the H2E team of the design office – exposition design creators, who will each present different aspects of the exhibition from their professional and personal point of view. At the end of the day, there will be a discussion led by playwright Lauris Gundars, focusing on the basic problem of any historical exposition – to demonstrate to the visitor that the narrative also applies to his own life, without losing all the historical facts. “How to create an effective” exhibition-visitor “link also means creating a” living museum “. That is, one in which to go not only in the name of the past, but also in the name of the future”, underlined the organizers of the event.

“This summer, at the SEGD international conference in the United States, we shared our experience as a designer in working with the communication of history, creating an exhibition of the Latvian Employment Museum. The reaction received from professionals around the world and discussions after the presentation he demonstrated that this topic has global relevance, but it is practically not talked about on a local scale. Design is a powerful communication tool that gives designers a great responsibility in conveying historical facts both in an understandable and emotional way. today’s situation, we must be able to use the design language even more clearly and purposefully – this year’s “Design Walk” will also be dedicated to this “, explained the leading designer of the H2E design studio, organizer of “Design walk” Ingūna Elere.

This year’s “Design Walk” aims to appeal to both design professionals and those interested in the field, as well as to any resident who wants to learn about the new Latvian Employment Museum exhibition or discover it from a different point of view: the designers’ point of view. It will be an opportunity to deepen the work process of creating the exhibition, to hear the stories that remain behind the scenes every day.
