“On health, we must serve as a cross-border model”

The year 2021 opens with a vaccination campaign against the coronavirus. It starts Monday and Tuesday in Moselle-Est and in Forbach in particular. Hope in this health crisis?

Christophe AREND : “Three vaccination centers will be operational in Sarreguemines, Forbach and Saint-Avold, the three main agglomerations of Moselle-Est. It makes sense given our population pool. It’s a hope to see the end of the tunnel. But beware, it will be a long time yet. We are not done with this virus. We will have to continue the educational work to overcome reluctance in the face of the vaccine ”.

Among our Saar neighbors, the anti-Covid vaccination campaign is slipping. The German model has hiccups. How do you explain it?

“Their vaccination centers were opened before ours but no longer work because there are no more doses available. The Saarites are unhappy. The strategy is criticized. At the end of January, we will have joined Germany on the vaccination figures. Personally, I regret that we did not have a Eurodistrict-wide vaccination strategy ”.

“The Marie-Madeleine hospital building has no room to accommodate a sheave service, an additional wing will have to be built.”

There was talk of the Freyming hospital welcoming German Covid patients in follow-up care and rehabilitation. Have there been any transfers?

“No not yet, but it is still relevant today. Freyming Hospital is ready just in case. We have to create reciprocity. Moselle patients were treated in Saarland and in Germany during this health crisis, this must be true in the other direction. Like the Mosar convention, and the cooperation already in place in cardiology between our hospitals in Saarland and Forbach, we must persevere and become a model in Europe on the cross-border. I would like the Sarreguemines hospitals to participate more in this project. I call for the creation of a local cross-border health contract ”.

What is the status of the final opening of intensive care beds at Marie-Madeleine hospital in Forbach?

“Moselle-Est is under-equipped with resuscitation beds and eight must be created in Forbach. This is evident in a hospital center which already has an intensive care unit in cardiology, high-level pneumology, emergencies, a neonatal unit … But the current hospital building lacks space to accommodate these beds, it will be necessary to build an additional wing. It is possible because it was planned at the start. While waiting for the realization of an architectural project, I ask all the same for the authorization of resuscitation activity. Currently, six temporary sheave beds are in operation in Marie-Madeleine within the framework of the state of health emergency ”.
