“On earth, it’s hell”: in Reims, workers are on strike in a high-rise apartment denouncing their working conditions

“Can I have breakfast?” » There is general concern about this high end accommodation with luxury servicesrue des Capucins, in Reims (Marne), this Saturday October 12, 2024. Everything is at a standstill. Of the 20 employees at Les Girandières residence, 2 are still providing minimum service. A strike notice was submitted a few days earlier by the workers of the center, tired and exhausted.

Problems have been piling up, especially since their employer, the branch of the Réside Études group dedicated to high-rise residences, was placed in a detention center last June. However, on paper, this group is a giant in real estate development. In addition to these special residences, it has exclusive ownership of the brands Séjour & affaires Apparthotel, Residhome Apparthotel (tourism and business residences 2 and 3 *), as well as Les Estudines and Stud’City (student residences). In 2022, it reported a total turnover of 498 million euros, up compared to previous years. This good financial health even allowed the opening of 19 new residences, including 12 main residences, in the same year, according to the latest annual report published on the organization’s website.

The situation is not so favorable in the details. The residential business, under the Les Girandières and Victoria Palazzo brands, is not in as good health as the rest of the group. A plan, published last May, foresees a continuous increase in activity until 2028. Less than a month later, the legal recovery procedure begins.

In the residence of Les Girandières in Reims, the consequences of direct sinking are visible every day and there will be pressure on the staff and residents of the residence open since 2019. Unpaid wages, lack of equipment, defective heating, moral and psychological suffering. . the list does not stop lying down.

“Some of us no longer have enough to feed ourselves or cover our children”

“On the ground, it’s hell,” explained Priscilla Guider, director of the institution and staff representative to the organization’s CSE. “Some have not been paid for more than two months, we lack everything, we are also worried about our residents who pay expensive rent, we cannot provide services to give them appropriate… and the management does not respond to us. »

In a long letter sent to the management and published a few days earlier on social networks, Priscilla Guider recalled with special emotion the damage of this silence: “The impact on our private lives is terrible, more beyond the tension this has created in our couples, some of us do not have enough to feed ourselves or clothe our children. »

At the age of 80 to 90, semi-independent residents live in new apartments between T1 and T3. Crossing near an empty restaurant room where there are a few space heaters against each other, one says that she is angry with “Paris”: “I, when I arrived, 5 years ago, I paid 2,900 euros for T2, today it is 4,100 euros. We feel like money machines! », she shouts.

On the side of Réside Études, in a press release of a few lines dated October 11 sent to the press, the management justifies the late payment “with modified salary processing procedures following a change in products -soft”, “problems with additional computer systems. in administrative processing. She confirms that she has made decisions to resolve the fifty issues identified among the group’s 1,400 employees, saying the moves should take place during the week. this.

This Saturday, October 12, to the concern of the families of residents and workers has added a deep sense of injustice. Decided, Priscilla Guider makes sure they go all the way: “In Reims, it’s just the beginning. If necessary, we will go to Paris. »

In the absence of viable buyers during the last hearing before the commercial court of Paris, on October 7, a new hearing dedicated to the fate of the luxury accommodation branch of the Réside Études group will be organized on November 4.
