On Christmas Day, Russia again bombed Ukrainian cities

Russian forces also bombarded the city of Kherson today, where invaders killed at least ten people and wounded nearly 70 others in a massive attack yesterday. For some of them the injuries are serious and life threatening, unfortunately some people had to have their legs amputated due to the explosions.

In the past 24 hours, a total of 13 people have been killed in shelling by Russian troops in the Kherson region, while three sappers have lost their lives during demining operations.

The head of the military administration of the Kherson region, Yaroslav Yanushevich, has urged residents to evacuate to safer areas so as not to endanger their lives and those of their loved ones.

At least three rockets fired by Russian forces exploded today in the city of Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. One of the rockets hit an area of high-rise residential buildings, but there are no reports of casualties.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy last night congratulated the country’s residents on Christmas, noting that this year’s holidays must be expected in difficult and unusual conditions: “Dear Ukrainians! We will face this and all other holidays in difficult conditions. Someone will see the first star in the sky over Bakhmut, Rubizhne or Kreminna. Thousands of kilometers along the front line. Someone is on the way, on the road from the Ukrainian-Polish border to the Kherson region or Zaporizhzhia. Someone will see that through the bullet holes in the roof of their house. Someone will wait for the holiday in foreign houses, but not with strangers – with Ukrainians who have given shelter to Ukrainians. Someone will hear “Shchedrik” in another language – in Warsaw, Berlin, London, New York, Toronto and many other cities and countries. And someone will welcome this Christmas into captivity, but remember that we will save these people too, we will give freedom to all Ukrainians ni”.

The Ukrainian media, quoting Verkhovna Rada sources, report that Zelenskyj will personally deliver his annual speech on the state of the country in parliament in one of the last days of the year.

The date of the show is being kept secret for security reasons. Last year, Zelensky delivered his speech to the Supreme Rada on December 1st.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that yesterday Russian forces carried out five rocket and air strikes, as well as more than 90 rocket artillery strikes, mainly against civilian objects. On the other hand, the defenders of Ukraine responded with several artillery and air strikes on the invaders’ positions. In the past 24 hours, another 620 invaders have been killed, but since the full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, Russia has already lost more than 102,000 soldiers, according to Ukrainian estimates.

Russian troops have been trying for several months to capture the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region with large forces, but so far without significant success. The head of the military administration of the Luhansk region, Serhii Haiday, announced that thousands of Russian soldiers have fallen in the vicinity of Bakhmut.

Analysts of the American think tank “Institute for the Study of War” write that the pace of attacks by Russian forces near Bakhmut has slowed down in recent days.

but it is too early to tell whether the invaders’ offensive on the city has reached its climax.

Analysts have also predicted that it will be increasingly difficult for Russian forces to maintain a high pace of offensive operations in the vicinity of Bakhmut and may attempt to initiate a tactical or operational pause.

Experts of the “War Research Institute” indicated that the operational capabilities of Russian troops near Bakhmut could be affected by the large loss of manpower of the private mercenary group “Wagner”. It was reported that due to low supply, the fighters recruited by “Wagner” do not have the necessary equipment, so they are sent into battle without protective helmets and body armor.
