On average, almost 8,500 new infections per day

Between 10 and 16 October, an average of 8,422.4 new coronavirus infections were diagnosed in our country every day, an increase of 69 percent compared to the seven days before.

This is evident from preliminary data from the Sciensano health institute on Tuesday. In total, 230,480 people have already been infected with the virus, 8,227 more than yesterday’s total number. The positivity ratio, the number of people who test positive in relation to the total number of tests, is now 15.3 percent (+4.2 percent).

There are currently 2,774 Covid patients in hospital (289 more than yesterday), of whom 446 in the intensive care unit (34 more than yesterday). 209 of them need to be ventilated. Between 13 and 19 October, an average of 266.7 people were hospitalized every day (+95 percent compared to the previous week).

Between October 10 and October 16, an average of 32.1 people died from Covid-19 every day. That is 15 people more every day than the week before. A total of 10,443 patients have already died (30 more than yesterday’s total).
