This Thursday the plenary session is held at the Alicante Town Hall. It has been approved, unanimously, that April 28, the day of Santa Faz, and Thursday June 23, 2022 are local holidays.
According to the Consistory, the initial proposal, which has already been debated within the Presidency and Interior Regime Commission, obtained the unanimous endorsement of the political groups with municipal representation.
Now it will be the Generalitat Valenciana that must decide whether to consider Friday June 24 as an autonomous festival, as it already happened in 2019. If so, the return of the Bonfires to Alicante would have a four-day macro-bridge: from Thursday 23 and until Sunday June 26, they signal from the City Hall.
They explain that June 24, 2021 was not a holiday in the Valencian Community mainly due to the incidence of the pandemic, although it was considered remunerated and recoverable. That is, the workers did not have to go to their jobs, but they had to make up those hours throughout the year if they decided not to go to work on San Juan’s day.
The Alicante City Council Party Councilor, Manuel Jiménez, has assured that “it would be logical and fair for June 24 to be a regional festival. This bridge would serve as an important spur for the many sectors that have been affected by the pandemic, ”he said.
