Rome: Pope Francis visited Laurentino, one of the largest cemeteries in Rome, on the Feast of All Dead. The Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri and the faithful welcomed the Pope who arrived in Laurentino, 30 kilometers away from the Vatican, at 10 am local time on Saturday.
The Pope said a silent prayer in a special place set aside for dead and unborn babies, called the “Garden of the Angels”. The Pope visited the cemetery and offered the holy sacrifice to the faithful who died.
This is one of the different cemeteries in Rome. In a prayer before the blessing at the end of the Mass, the Pope said that mortal bodies will rise on the last day and that those who fell asleep in the Lord will participate in the victory over death.
Papa also visited here in 2021. When he visited the cemetery in 2021, Pope Francis spoke for a few minutes with Stefano, a father who lost his child during pregnancy. Later, the father offered flowers and prayed in front of the grave where the child was buried.
Before the Mass, the Pope offered a special prayer at the same place called “Garden of the Angels” where the children were buried last year, on the Feast of the Dead, the Pope’s Mass was at the cemetery where the Rome’s war dead are buried.
On all the Feast of the Dead, the Pope gave sacrifices in the cemetery; Again a reminder that war is a failure
