On a cliff hit field. We listen to the finalists of “Latvian Heart Songs” / Article

My whole childhood is one single “Bypass”. My cousin interpreted the complicated song for the then freshly released song “Strawberries” as “pē-dē -ēdē-dojo once”, inserting one extra “eat” in the middle, because the authors had not calculated that the long “eat” in a child’s lungs could be a challenge. In turn, the song “Dandelions” connects me with the day when we tried to learn the lyrics with the same cousin, as a result of which I missed the last bus home and also the opportunity to visit the cousin more often.

Outside of “Bypass”, there were other hit musicians in my childhood sounds.

For example, she danced like at the age of six at Viktor Zemgals’ “Flower of Magnolia”, which someone ordered almost every week in the program “Congratulations!”, I have never lived again.

Unfortunately, I no longer find a clip in the internet labyrinths with beautiful dancers in red (probably flamenco) dresses.

However, my favorite memory related to hit music is a trip in late autumn from the candlelight evening to Varakļāni cemetery, when a gloomy mood was cut with a knife by a song played on the radio. Among other things, it asked a question that doesn’t bother me after living in Riga for ten years – “Where does the smell of shit stay when a farmer drives in Riga?” (quoted from memory).

To avoid misunderstandings and accusations that I have been in a warm relationship with the hit only as a child and due to other people’s tastes and influences, then my guilty pleasure list still includes such musical achievements as

Raimondas Vazdika’s “Promise Me Nothing”, whose ornamental scream “aāāāāāāāāāāāāāāā” resonates exactly with my adult life experiences.

Last weekend, a friend and I were walking through the central streets of Riga singing the “Chicago Five” song “Our Love”, and he remembered how

already in his light teenage years, he was encouraged every morning on the radio waves by the group’s “but bet” call – “Come on! Let it come! May a hard day come! ”

Not only me and my friends like to pawn on this direction of music, but also rapper Armand from the association “STA”, creating the legendary parody “Always You”, which at least I took and still take too seriously and deeply personally.

About the finalists of “Latvian Heart Songs”

Only superficially looking at the list of finalists of this year’s survey of the program “Latvian Heart Songs”, among whom, unfortunately, I do not find my already mentioned personal favorite performers of hit music, I made some conclusions:

  • strong white dominance in the names – “White Jasmine”, “White Flowers” (which is probably about the same jasmine shrub) and “Clouds white and roses”;
  • the legendary “Zeļļi”, “Lauku muzikanti” and “Kantoris 04” for life (like “Līvi”);
  • Sabine Berezina’s musical to-do list leaves only a tick in the box next to the commitment to try her voice death metal genre;
  • Aigariņš, whose most famous composition is “It is very good to have hands”, turns out to be not a single hit miracle and is currently focusing on the world of people’s feelings.

A short summary of song themes:

Rating for each of the finalists:

Since the feelings that take over while listening to music are difficult to describe in words, I will evaluate each song using “emoji” icons.

“Zeļļi” & Eva Grāvele “White jasmine”

⛰️⛰️⛰️⛰️⛰️

(Five cliffs. Guntars Račs’ text speaks for itself: “And it’s nothing if you don’t come, I have nowhere else to go. I’ll be waiting for you on a cliff where jasmine blooms with white flowers.”)

Ainars Bumbieris – “White Flowers”

❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

(I give 5 snowflakes about the beautiful snow metaphor in the video.)

Jānis Moisejs and Ieva Sutugova – “Children’s Days”

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

(Convincing 5 hearts in the color of Ieva Sutugova’s dress.)

Loreta & Lynx – Time and Happiness

????????????????????

(Definitely 5 horse heads on video – kids and animals don’t leave anyone indifferent.)

Anna Dribas – “Wedding Ring”

????????????????????

(Greetings from Anna Driba to Beyonce’s song “All The Single Ladies”.)

Beāte Meldere and Silvestrs Lorencs – “Liedaga promenade”

????????????????????

(The clip uses stable values - two lovers, a city-patriotism and a man in a white shirt with Justin Bieber’s suede.)

Kaspars Antess – “I miss you”

????️????️????️????️????️

(I send Kaspars Antes five doves full of hope that the melancholy feelings will stop one day and everything will be fine.)

“Country musicians” – “Clouds white and roses”

????????????????????

(I remember “rural musicians” from childhood. They have remained faithful to their strongest weapons – simplicity, authenticity and sincerity. ❤️.)

“Rumba Quartet” – “Night is Coming”

????????????????????

(The soloist of the “Rumba Quartet” could be a cousin of Intars Busulis.)

Kaspars Markševics and Sabīne Berezina – “Don’t leave me”

????????????????????

(There are two types of women in Latvia: “don’t-come-me-in-autumn” women (for example, Laima Vaikule) and “don’t leave-me-in-autumn” women (for example, Sabine Berezina))

Aigariņš – “Only the heart”

????????????????????

(There is a strong disappointment in Aigariņš’s song, I hope and wish that the sparkling joy of life in the composition “It is very good to have rushes” will return soon.)

Sisters Legzdinas – “Only for you”

????????????????????

(I think Aigariņš and we can all get optimism from the beautiful roses Legzdiņi.)

Mārtiņš Kanters, “Auļi” and “Anima” – “Valodiņa”

????️????️????️????️????️

(If Mārtiņš Kanters were Daina’s father, but Daina’s father was an image in the film “Matrix”, then this could be the title song of the film.)

Viktors Tilčiks – “Like fuel once”

????????????????????

(Victor No Expectations Tilchik or Victor Va-pa-pa-v-ba-du-dā Tilchik.)

“Office 04” – “Beautiful moments”

4️⃣4️⃣4️⃣4️⃣4️⃣

(“Kantoris 04” ingeniously summarizes all the events discussed in the other songs in the song “Beautiful Moments”, to which I also add my experience in getting acquainted with the finalists of “Heart Songs”.)

“Latvian Heart Song” will be announced on June 12. The live broadcast of the final will be available at 21.05 on LTV1, REPLAY.lv and “Latvijas sirdsdziesmas” “Facebook” account, as well as listened to Latvijas Radio 2.
