“The most beautiful thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything,” she wrote a month ago Ralf Schumacher (49) on his Instagram with a photo in which he was seen from behind, hugging his boyfriend and looking at the sea. Until then, the former Formula 1 driver kept it private that he was gay and after that publication there were many congratulatory comments received by Ralf (who raced for eleven years and won six Grand Prix) and his boyfriend Etienne, among which was the most special greeting, that of his son David. “I was very happy that you have finally found someone with whom you really feel very comfortable and safe (…). I support you one hundred percent, dad, and I wish you all the best and congratulations,” said the 22-year-old, who also has a passion for motor racing in his blood.

A couple of days later, Michael’s younger brother (the German who was a seven-time Formula 1 world champion) shared another postcard with his love, this time both facing the camera. Drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, among others, sent messages of total support for Ralf’s decision to come out of the closet. Ralf was married to Cora Brinkmann from 2001 to 2015. Until now, the only openly gay declaration by an F1 driver had been that of the British Mike Beuttler, who competed in the early 1970s and died in 1988.
With this photo posted on his Instagram, Ralf told the world that he was in a relationship with the young Frenchman.
Ralf and Etienne – who lives in Nice – met in Monaco, fell in love and have been sharing love and work for two years, as the Frenchman is the former racer’s sales representative. These days, it’s all about relaxation and rest for the happy couple who are enjoying a dream holiday in St. Tropez, in the south-east of France, with David, Ralf’s only heir, and his girlfriend, the Hungarian pilot Vivien Keszthelyi, between swimming, toasts on board the boat they are sailing in the Mediterranean and lots of sun.

Here we see Etienne at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, last July, a few days after her romance with Ralf became public. Ralf is also at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in his role as a commentator for the Sky Sport Formel1 television channel.
EX-WIFE’S SAYINGS
In the last few hours, Ralf has been involved in a controversy following the interview that his ex-wife, Cora Brinkmann, gave to the German magazine Der Spiegel. According to her own words, she found out about her ex’s relationship with Etienne last July through the Instagram post made by Michael Schumacher’s younger brother. “It was a stab in the heart. Just like Mr. Schumacher has the right to come out of the closet. Did you also think for a moment about the consequences for me?” she said. “He always denied it to me,” she continued, then saying that she had met Etienne a year ago during a holiday in St. Tropez, but as her ex-husband’s assistant.
Cora and Ralf were married for 14 years. “Ralf disrespected me,” she said, claiming that her ex’s revelation took her by surprise,
Although Ralf did not want to make any statements to the magazine, he used his Instagram account to contradict the mother of his child. The former pilot published a WhatsApp conversation between Cora and her current boyfriend in October 2023 where it was clear that she knew about the relationship.
“I would like to clarify that Cora congratulated us in October 2023 because she thought we had gotten married (…) I think it is a shame for Etienne and me that she spreads so many lies. We both just want our peace,” Ralf said.
