– On a bad day, I could have been tortured to death

NEW YORK (Aftenposten): Although she was threatened with death, women’s activist May Sabe Phyu (45) was determined to stay in her home country. But the last year has changed everything.

The soldiers are said to have forced people out of the cars. Some were arrested. Most were tied up and then killed with a knife or firearm.

Eventually, the bodies were burned. Some were still alive when they were set on fire, according to a local opposition leader.

It is estimated that over 35 people died in the episode which took place in a village in the state of Kayah in eastern Myanmar.
