Omtzigt announced last week – after much insistence from other parties – that he wants to remain in the House of Representatives, even if NSC becomes the largest party. He left unclear who would be able to move into the Tower in that case.
However, he said that it is not obvious that a party other than the largest will provide the prime minister.
In the conversation with Nieuwsuur, Omtzigt reiterated that the role of the prime minister must be smaller than it was in the years of Mark Rutte. “We have been governed from the Torentje for the past twelve years. Or from the Catshuis, and that is even more problematic, because he simply invited a few ministers there and then made decisions.”
