In New Zealand, the corona measures in all regions outside Auckland, the largest city in the country, will be relaxed again from Wednesday. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said so at a press conference.
Schools, offices and shops, among others, are allowed to open again, but distances still have to be kept. Face masks are also still mandatory in many places, such as in shopping centers. Furthermore, a maximum of fifty people are allowed to gather indoors, outside the limit is one hundred people.
Auckland will remain under a strict lockdown until September 14. Despite the strict corona measures, the country counted dozens of new infections last week, with Auckland as the fire source. With 85 new cases, it was the highest number of new infections since the start of the pandemic. Today, that number has fallen to twenty infections.
Vaccination rates in New Zealand are still relatively low. So far, 30 percent of the country’s more than five million inhabitants have been vaccinated.
