It is very likely that Defense will come to Flevoland in the future as well. Each province or territory must do its own part. The mayor and aldermen of Dronten and Zeewolde wrote this in a letter to their town councils.
The Provincial Government has also sent a similar letter to the Provincial Council. It is not clear how and what Defense can come to Flevoland.
The letter looked back on a visit made by Secretary of State Gijs Tuinman to Flevoland last week. Tuinman toured areas to talk about the National Defense Space Program, which is looking for several new exercise and training sites for the armed forces.

Clarity
Flevoland is also in the picture for several locations. For example, a place for large weapons storage, a super garrison, a jump-off area and a low-flying area for helicopters are being considered. Lelystad Airport is also in the picture to house F-35 fighter jets.
When he visited Flevoland, Tuinman spoke to various administrators in the province about the areas of concern here. He also wanted to know what opportunities were seen.
According to the Dronten Municipal Government, the impact on residents and entrepreneurs is such a concern. “Defence has been asked to provide clarity as soon as possible so that people are not left in uncertainty any longer than necessary,” the council writes.
The defenders are still investigating which places will be given a choice. According to Zeewolde, the province will talk to Defense about fighter planes and Lelystad Airport on December 2. More clarity will be provided about the preferred locations early next year.
