This Thursday, December 23, Rémi Salomon was the guest of Yves Calvi in RTL Matin. Referring to the evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic, the president of the Medical Establishment Commission of the APHP wished to alert on the contagiousness of the Omicron variant.
The Omicron variant continues to spread rapidly in several territories. This Thursday, December 23, Rémi Salomon was the guest of Yves Calvi on RTL to comment on the evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic and share its expertise. About the variant Omicron, the president of the Medical Establishment Commission of the APHP wished warn about his “contagion“ : “Omicron seems to give less serious Covid, which is rather good news, but it must immediately be weighed with extreme contagiousness“, he recalled in the preamble.
“We have never seen a virus as contagious as this one. It’s spreading like wildfire“, observed Rémi Salomon, who estimated that the Omicron variant was probably soon to become majority on the whole of the French territory : “In less than three weeks, he replaced Delta in some countries and in France, the change is being made. In the Paris region, it is already the majority. In the coming days, it will be the majority in France and there will only be Omicron in January almost“, he warned.
What about hospitalizations?
After reporting on his contagiousness, Rémi Salomon spoke of hospital admissions : “Even if there are a little less severe cases, there will be so many cases in total that there will unfortunately be a probably quite large increase, even very important, of the number of patients in hospitals“, explained the president of the Medical Establishment Commission of the APHP. Yves Calvi sought to know more about the current situation:”Where are you exactly as we speak?“, asked the journalist of RTL. And Rémi Salomon to answer:”For the moment, we have an increase which is moderate. It is the Delta vague. We are more on a plateau now, we will not have a descent before an ascent. And then we will probably see what we can call a 6th wave arrive in the coming days“, he explained, recalling that”all French regions, to varying degrees, are impacted“by hospitalizations due to Covid.
