Omicron strain – EU guidelines published

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control said the new Omicron coronavirus strain may be more resistant to vaccines. This type of virus can spread faster.

Experts recommend:

• avoid travel to areas where cases of infection have been identified;
• expand testing and contact tracing of COVID-19 patients;
• EU countries consider the possibility of introducing a booster dose for people aged 40 and over (start with the most vulnerable categories, and then vaccinate adults aged 18 and over).
