“To be honest, Omicron will dominate and rule the whole world in three to six months,” said doctor Leong Hoe Nam from Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore, quoted Saturday (4/12/2021).
Therefore a vaccine against this new variant must be developed quickly. At the very least, within the next three months a vaccine against Omicron should be tested.
“The vaccines need to be tested for three to six months to prove that they can confer immunity against the variant,” he said.
The Omicron variant is predicted to be like the delta which currently accounts for 99% of Covid-19 infections worldwide. Where the delta originates from the state of Maharashtra, India in March 2021 and worldwide in July.
Meanwhile, Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel said it was not easy to make a vaccine. At least it will take months to develop a special vaccine for the omicron variant.
The CEO of Pfizer, Albert Bourla, said the same thing. According to him, the research could be ready in less than 100 days, or a little more than three months.
“Good idea, but honestly, it’s impractical (a vaccine for omicron). We won’t be able to rush to get the vaccine out on time and by the time the vaccine comes, almost everyone will be infected with omicron given this high rate of transmission and transmission,” he explained. .
On the other hand, experts don’t know exactly how contagious this Omicron variant is. However, it is certain to have a higher transmission for low endurance.
