KOMPAS.com – It’s spreading Covid-19 varian Omicron made a number of suggestions and treatment procedures for patients who were positively infected with the corona virus were also updated.
This includes guidelines on how long to isolate and when patients can see other people.
Some countries, such as the US and UK, have reduced the isolation period to five days to ease the burden on individuals.
This is because varian Omicron is known to be more infectious than the previous variant although many cases have mild symptoms and even Asymptomatic People (OTG).
In addition, those who received a double dose or booster less likely to be hospitalized or die from infection with this variant.
World Health Organization (WHO) suggests that the world community should not be complacent with Omicron. It even states that this strain is still “lethal”, especially for people who are not vaccinated.

What is the order in which the Omicron symptoms appear?
Current evidence suggests that this new variant is milder and has a shorter incubation period. Incubation is the time between infection and the onset of symptoms.
Quoted from BBC Indonesia, symptoms usually appear 5 to 6 days after infection for the initial type of corona virus. For example, the Delta variant is 4 days.
As for the Omicron variant, symptoms appear within 2 to 3 days after infection.
A study of six Omicron samples in the United States showed the average incubation period for this variant was 3 days, or shorter than other variants of 5 days.

According to Dr Vicente Soriano from La Rioja International University in Spain, the virus multiplies within a day of being exposed to Omicron. The disease is detected within 2 days.
Scientists state that the Omicron virus can be transmitted 1 to 2 days before symptoms appear.
According to doctor Soriano, this virus is only contagious for 5 days. In other words, the virus can infect other people for 3 to 5 days after testing positive on the second day of illness.
He claims the Omicron variant persists in the body for 7 days, as most people no longer transmit Omicron after 7 days and are asymptomatic.
“Some people have a duration of 3 or 4 days, while others have a duration of 7 days. Omicron infects significantly faster than the previous type,” Soriano said.
An antigen test (also known as a rapid lateral flow test) can determine if the person is still infectious. “This is a less expensive test that can detect infection,” he said.

Guidelines for isolation of patients with Omicron variant
US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published guidelines that allow people who test positive for Covid to mingle with other people after five days of isolation, but under certain conditions.
Here’s what to do if you test positive, according to the CDC:
- If you ever suffer COVID-19 and have symptoms, isolate for at least 5 days. To calculate your 5-day isolation period, day 0 is the first day of your symptoms.
- If you no longer have symptoms or your symptoms improve after five days, you can leave the isolation area or leave your home.
- Continue to wear a mask when you are with other people for the next five days.
- Avoid traveling for up to 10 full days after the first day of symptoms. If you must travel on days 6-10, wear a tight-fitting mask when you are around other people during the trip.
- If you have a fever, continue to isolate yourself at home until the fever goes away.
