President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urges the public to reduce activities in crowd centers and implement working from home alias work form home to prevent the spread of Covid-19 variants Omicron.
“If ladies and gentlemen do not have urgent needs, it is better to reduce activities in crowded centers and for those who can work from home, work from home, do work from home,” said Jokowi in a statement broadcast online via the Presidential Secretariat’s Youtube channel, Tuesday (18/1).
Jokowi said there was a spike in positive cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. He asked the public to remain vigilant, but not to panic too much. According to him, the Omicron variant is contagious, but has mild symptoms.
“Patients with this variant generally recover without being treated at the hospital. Once again we have to be careful not to get carried away and careless,” he said.
For information, as of Tuesday morning, the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) announced that the latest cases of the Omicron variant in Indonesia had increased to 840 cases. The findings of hundreds of cases were identified by the Ministry of Health for about a month.
Director of Prevention and Control of Directly Infectious Diseases (P2PML) of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, then detailed that of the 840 Omicron cases, 609 were cases from Overseas Travelers (PPLN). Then 172 cases of local transmission, and 57 others are still being investigated for the source of transmission.
“So since we detected it from December 15, 2021 to January 17, 2022, there are currently 840 positive cases of Omicron,” said Nadia in an online event, Tuesday (18/1).
Nadia continued that the country with the most PPLN arrivals was Saudi Arabia. Then followed by Turkey, the United States, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates. The overall examination was obtained from the S Gene Target Failure (SGTF) test which was then validated using Whole Genome Sequences (WGS).
