PEOPLE’S MIND – Recent data shows that Covid-19 varian Omicron BA.5 spreads faster than the previous variant.
This is the result of monitoring how Omicron BA.5 spread worldwide, and now surpasses the BA.2 variant that was previously described as highly contagious.
In the past week, the case Omicron BA.5 in the United States (US) has increased by as much as 10 percent.
In addition, a study showed that Omicron BA.5 also has immune-evading properties, so it is judged to reduce efficacy vaccine.

“BA.5 has a mutation in its spike protein that gives it an increased ability to evade the body’s immune response from infection Covid-19 before, especially if immunity is reduced, and protection from vaccine which is designed to combat the type Covid-19 original,” said Bernadette Boden-Albala, director and founding dean of the public health program at the University of California Irvine.
On the other hand, Dr. Monica Gandhi, director of the Center for AIDS Research at the University of California San Francisco, said BA.5 appears to outsmart humans’ first line of defense against infection with antibodies.
Cellular immunity in the form of memory T cells and B cells appears to defend well, protecting people from severe illness, hospitalization, and death.
However, the study is a preliminary study and has not been peer reviewed.
