The Consumer Ombudsman’s Office (DC) began a series of price and inventory verifications in egg producing and distributing companies, to avoid abuses in one of the most consumed products.
The head of the DC, Ricardo Salazar, explained that the verification began at the Huevos Catalana company, in the San Miguelito neighborhood, San Salvador, with the objective of guaranteeing the population marketing at fair prices.
“During the inspection of this company, one of the main companies in the sector, they corroborated a significant decrease of about 8% in the prices, in general, of the products it supplies to the national market. The information that we have crossed with other State institutions is that there are quite favorable conditions for egg production in the country,” he said.
According to the president of the Ombudsman’s Office, yellow corn, one of the main inputs for feeding laying hens, has had an increase in imports in recent weeks, therefore, there are favorable supply conditions and production costs.
“We are talking about quite favorable conditions for both supply and production costs and based on this, we corroborate that this can be reflected in prices for consumers,” he stressed.
DC inspection teams also verify egg prices in wholesale stores in Santa Ana, San Miguel, Usulután and Santa Tecla, among other points of sale, to avoid unjustified price increases.
“This effort is parallel in other points of sale, on a national scale, such as Santa Ana, San Miguel, Usulután, Santa Tecla, among others, we are corroborating that the price reductions of these products are applied,” said the official.
During this procedure, information on purchase prices and sales to the consumer is also required; Any price abuse can be reported to WhatsApp 7844-1482 or phone 910.
