Return to the old rural parish
This book traces the history of the town through the transcription of an unpublished 19th century manuscript : the reader will discover the handwritten notes that René Grange, priest of Noëllet from 1842 to 1877, recorded in a notebook.
In his notes, the priest added testimonies on the time of the Chouannerie, the tomb of the Emigré, the lime kilns, the castle of Jaille, the chapel of Carcran, or the relics of Saint Maimboeuf. He also enriched his grades legendary or true stories and funny anecdotes.
For’author of the preface, Alain Racineux, doctor of history, “this is a mine of historical, geographical and sociological information on the town of Noëllet in the 19th century century. The idea occurred to Father Grange to describe the situation of the inhabitants of the town, house by house. It’s a bit of a Benedictine job, because our ecclesiastic reviewed 62 buildings in the town and 157 in the countryside, with their particularities, their residents but also their owners! “
