Omar Marmoush is still looking for the right paths at SBU. But he burns for the Eintracht Frankfurt project and is full of anticipation.
Frankfurt – Omar Marmoush cannot and does not want to hide a certain disorientation. For Eintracht’s Egyptian approach, everything is new in Frankfurt, the area at the stadium is large, the distances are long, the professional camp is nested.
After the 24-year-old introduced himself to the general public for the first time on Friday and made a good first impression, he wanted to make his way back to the dressing room wing, but couldn’t find the right way, which is why he stuck his head in the press room less than 60 seconds after his exit and politely asked for Eintracht spokesman Bartosz Niedzwiedzki. “Uh, where do I have to go?” he asked with a mischievous smile on his lips. The man could be helped.

“Like New York”: Eintracht access Marmoush still has to get used to Frankfurt
You have to understand that: The fast offensive player recently played for VfL Wolfsburg, in the Autostadt on the Mittelland Canal, where the train station is also the center of the cityscape. Frankfurt is a completely different house number, “that’s a big change,” tweets Omar Marmoush and says with a laugh: “It’s like New York for me here, I’m a bit overwhelmed.” It’s good that the teammates are all good guys, in the changing room he sits next to manager Kevin Trapp. He knows his stuff.
And it’s not as if Egyptians generally don’t find their way around big cities. He grew up in Cairo and lived in the vibrant metropolis of ten million for a long time. He came to Wolfsburg six years ago – and since then has been diligently studying German with a private tutor. The reward: he has an excellent command of the foreign language. Of course, this also helps to overcome barriers and integrate quickly. He has no problem with that anyway. “I love meeting new people,” he says. “I’m a street boy.”

“I was immediately convinced”: Marmoush raves about the “project” Eintracht Frankfurt
Omar Marmoush feels in good hands in the unfamiliar surroundings, the anticipation and excitement literally jump out at the audience when he talks about the “project” Eintracht. He grins and smirks and seems unable to believe that he is now a part of what impressed him so much. “The club is huge, has a real appeal.” And anyway: “In the last few years it’s only gone up, everyone in Germany knows that, you can’t look past Eintracht.”
That’s why he didn’t have to think long when sporting director Markus Krösche asked him three or four months ago if he could imagine playing with the eagle on his chest in the future. “I was convinced right away,” he says. “I want to take the next step here, it’s perfect for me.” The club has great ambitions, just like him personally. “That fits.”
New Frankfurter Omar Marmoush: role model Kolo Muani
The nimble striker can look back on a very good year overall in Wolfsburg. He was in the starting lineup in 15 of 33 games, scoring five goals, including one against Eintracht, of course. At that time it was already clear that he would change colors in the new season. But he knew no mercy. He was still employed in Wolfsburg at the time. “It’s clear that I give 100 percent for my club.”
He is quite happy with his record, but now wants even more. He is aware that it will be difficult, the competition is fierce. “I will work hard,” he says. Maybe he could even form a double lead with Randal Kolo Muani if he stayed and coach Dino Toppmöller put on two strikers. “Kolo is huge,” says Marmoush, almost in awe. “I learned a lot from him. I would like to play with him here.” Where exactly he is used in attack is not so important to the 18-time international.

In the country selection he plays left wing, in Wolfsburg and in Stuttgart, where he was previously on loan, he stormed centrally. Both are fine with him. He has resolved to be cold-blooded. He often comes into promising final situations, but “the last push is missing, I would like to use my scoring chances better.”
After spending time together in Wolfsburg: Kovac congratulates Marmoush on the SBU change
Niko Kovac, the former Frankfurt and current Wolfsburg coach, also advised him to work on his defensive attitude. “If he thinks he has to play like Messi, then it becomes problematic,” said the Croatian of his protégé, whom he often praised but also pushed hard when he had to. In April of this year, Kovac punished his player mercilessly, in the game against VfL Bochum he came on in the second half and brought him down again after less than 20 minutes.
“Of course you’re angry at that moment,” Marmoush recalls. But he had a very good relationship with Kovac. “He explained it to me. I accepted it.” And neither of them hold grudges. After the change was made, Kovac, a lifetime member of Eintracht, congratulated him and said: “You’re coming to a top club, that’s a great step for you.” (Ingo Durstewitz)
