Oman raises labor permit fees

The new labor law is in its final stages

Muscat Oman Ministry of Labor raises fees for recruitment of foreign workers The rates will be increased for posts in eight categories, including senior level, middle level, technical and specialized sectors.

Hiring foreign workers in higher posts is more costly. Such companies will have to pay up to 2001 riyals (approximately Rs. 3,80,000) to the Ministry of Labor. The fee rate for middle level posts is set at 1001 riyals (approximately Rs. 1,90,000). Specialized or technical posts will cost 601 riyals (approximately Rs. 144,000) and fishermen 361 riyals (approximately Rs. 68,500). The visa fee for non-vacancies will remain at 301 riyals (approximately Rs. 57,000). Five riyals (approximately Rs. 950) is required to change the details of the workers and the change of employer. Further details about the posts and when the new fee rate will come into effect have not been released.

The labor law to be implemented by Oman is in its final stages. The law will come into force in late March or early April. There will also be changes in the Civil Service Act. The new job application system will replace the existing sponsor tide labor clearance and employment visa process.

Consolidation of wages and time in the private-public sector is also under discussion. The goal is to secure employment for 70 percent of the natives by the end of 2022. The ministry said further steps would be taken in the coming days to implement the nationalization. The country has already taken a number of steps towards this. As many as 2,72,126 expatriates who lost their jobs due to the Kovid epidemic have returned home.
