While the pre-match was eventful in Marseille, OM must raise their heads tonight (9 p.m.) against Rennes at the Vélodrome after three consecutive losses in Ligue 1

“I am responsible for the current results, it is a disaster.” André Villas-Boas was frank and lucid yesterday during the traditional pre-match press point at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus center. Sixth before challenging Rennes (fifth with 36 points), OM are currently 13 units from the podium. The terrible negative series composed of a single success in eight matches – for two draws and five defeats – led the Marseille club into a vertiginous fall. And OM in a deep crisis. Here are five things to know before OM-Rennes tonight (9 p.m.) at the Vélodrome.
Three defeats in a row, OM’s worst streak since 2015
Nîmes, Lens and Monaco, OM remain on three consecutive defeats in the league. This is the club’s worst series since April 2015 (4 setbacks).
OM have won only one of their last eight matches, against Montpellier on January 6 at the Vélodrome (3-1).
A tense context
“JHE and the direction Mickey-vous”, “JHE: ‘No Marseillais at OM’? Get out of here”, “Parisians break!” … Several banners were deployed today in Marseille for demand the departure of Jacques-Henri Eyraud and the management.
But that’s not all. Several hundred Marseille supporters led a punch action on the 2:30 p.m. blows at La Commanderie. They tried to invade the Robert Louis-Dreyfus training center by literally setting fire, with force of smoke and other fireworks, at the entrance to the enclosure. Calm then returned. But the police made 25 arrests. The pre-game in front of the Vélodrome could also be hot …
A prolific OM against Rennes
To put an end to their terrible negative streak and lift their heads (a little), OM will have to score tonight against Rennes at the Vélodrome. An opponent who is doing well in this area during the last confrontations. OM remain in 13 games in a row, scoring against the Bretons in Ligue 1, or 21 goals in total. This is the Marseille club’s best series against Rennes since the period February 1947-February 1974 (35 goals).
Stephan, flashback
A month and a half after the first round marred by several questionable arbitration decisions, Stephan submitted a document, estimating the Marseille sanctions justified on this match and on the whole season. Before passing the ointment to the referee tonight, Antony Gautier.
Gomis, return to cage
He has not played since November 27, between hip injury and maintaining his lining, Romain Salin. Julien Stephan decided that the interim had lasted long enough. Tonight, Alfred Gomis, bought 16 million euros in Dijon, will find his place in the Rennes cage. The giant of Ziguinchor (1.96m) has not yet shown his true face since his arrival at Roazhon Park.
