OM now also charges suspected illegal abortion for the death of a child

Dennis van M., who is suspected of illegal abortion resulting in the death of his girlfriend, is now charged by the Public Prosecution Service (OM) for the death of the child. The Public Prosecution Service added ‘murder of the unborn, viable child’ to the charges against the Diemenaar.

That was decided after studying the autopsy on the baby. 49-year-old Van E. is accused of buying abortion pills and pushing to have an abortion against his eight-month-pregnant 32-year-old girlfriend Patricia Oliveira Dos Santos. Taking those pills resulted in the death of the baby.

Dos Santos did not survive the delivery, she died of bleeding caused by a tear in her uterus. Van E. allegedly failed to get medical help for his girlfriend. Traces of cocaine, ketamine, MDMA and alcohol were also found in Dos Santos’ blood.

“Suspicion is wrong”

According to Van E. himself, the story is not entirely correct. At an earlier hearing, Van E. said: “The suspicion is not correct and there is talk of a terrible tragedy. Patricia had died in her sleep. I went to the police station that morning in shock and grief to ask for help. But I was detained.”

At the hearing on Thursday afternoon, the public prosecutor changed the charge of manslaughter to aggravated assault resulting in death. According to the officer, it was not Van E.’s intention that his girlfriend would not survive the delivery.

Prefer a girl

At the earlier hearing, the officer stated that the 49-year-old wanted the abortion, because WhatsApp messages showed that he did not want a boy but a girl. Van E. insists that his girlfriend wanted the abortion herself and took the pills, booze and drugs herself.
