The Public Prosecution Service in Biella, Northern Italy, has started an investigation into the death of Sandro Tognatti. The clarinet teacher died on the night from Saturday to Sunday, a few hours after being vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine. The same Public Prosecution Service also confiscated the batch from which the dose came. The use of the corona vaccine has now been discontinued nationwide.

The batch of AstraZeneca vaccines with the number ABV5811 may no longer be used in Italy for the time being, it was announced earlier this afternoon after an order from the Public Prosecution Service (OM) of the city of Biella. It concerns about 400,000 injections. It has just been announced that AstraZeneca vaccines have been discontinued across the country. That reports the Italian medicine authority. With this, Italy follows the example of Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark, among others.

The northern Italian region of Piedmont, where Biella is located, suspended all use of the drug on Sunday. The cause was the death of a 57-year-old music teacher from Biella. The man died on Sunday morning, fourteen hours after being vaccinated with AstraZeneca’s corona vaccine.

The Public Prosecution Service wants to investigate whether there is a link between the vaccine and the sudden death of the man, who, as far as is known, had no underlying complaints. “As far as is currently known, there is no scientific evidence that can be used to establish with certainty that there is a connection between the administration of the vaccine and the death of Sandro Tognatti,” the OM writes in a statement.

But a connection cannot be ruled out either and so the Public Prosecution Service has ordered an autopsy on the man’s body. Until there is a report, vaccinations with doses from that batch have been stopped in Italy.

Previously, three people died in Sicily three hours after being vaccinated with AstraZeneca.
