After the dog bit the three children, their father grabbed the animal by the neck. The owner was then able to leash the dog again. The woman refused to provide her information. The father rushed to hospital with his children. The owner reported to the police a few days later, after a media appeal.
Police confiscated the dog. A study at Utrecht University showed that the animal shows “no positive behavior” and rushes at people and other dogs, possibly resulting in aggressive behavior. The dog was subsequently killed by order of the public prosecutor.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, the owner is criminally accused of not having ensured that her dog did nothing. “She let the dog run free where that is not allowed and initially stayed at a distance without intervening,” said the OM. “Moreover, it is a large, strong dog, which has not received training in its upbringing.”
The father and his children had to receive therapy after the incident. In addition to community service, the Public Prosecution Service wants the judge to largely grant the compensation requested by the family. The Subdistrict Court will rule on 11 December.
