A prison sentence of twelve years has been demanded against a 55-year-old Rotterdammer who is suspected of setting his house on fire last year. Come to the fire upstairs neighbor killed. He fled his home by jumping out the window. The 27-year-old man died from the consequences of the fall, says the Public Prosecution Service.

The fire was on the Hilledijk on April 13 last year. It soon became clear that it fire was lit.. Gasoline remains were found in the apartment. There was also packaging material in the house.

Using different detection programs arrested the occupant of the building.

Fire to get out of a criminal case

According to the public prosecutor, it seems that the Rotterdammer started the fire to get out of a criminal case in Belgium. Belgian justice suspects him of murder. He said he had deposited exculpatory evidence in that case in his home. “Now he can say in Belgium that he no longer has that evidence. After all, it was lost in the fire,” said the public prosecutor.

The Public Prosecution Service is convinced that the suspect is the only one who can have started the fire. Camera images show that he was in the house several times on the day of the fire.
