Olympique de Marseille, the third in the French Football League, announced its first summer deals, signing Central African Republic midfielder Joffrey Kondogbia from Spanish club Atletico Madrid.
Marseille wrote in a press statement: “The midfielder signed with the Olympic Club after the success of his medical visit,” without revealing the duration of the contract or the amount of any compensation for his club, Atletico Madrid, with whom he had a contract until the summer of 2024.
The former French international (5 international matches), who is now captain of the Central African Republic national team, will play under the supervision of his former coach in Valencia, Spain’s Marcelino, with whom he won the King’s Cup at Barcelona’s expense in 2019.
And the French club stated that Kondogbia, who was formed in the ranks of Lens Club, defended the colors of “clubs accustomed to European competitions, from Seville to Inter through Monaco.”
Kondogbia, who was crowned Spanish champion with Atletico Madrid in 2021, played 20 La Liga games last season, with a few minutes in 2023 compared to the first half of the season.
Kondogbia will count on the confidence of coach Marcelino, who was recently appointed to succeed Croatian Igor Tudor.
Marseille is waiting for a busy start to the new season, between the resumption of the league competitions and the third round of the European Champions League.
