Olympique de Marseille won an important victory against AJ Auxerre on the 35th day of Ligue 1. Struggling for much of the game, the Marseillais were able to react in the last minutes to win 2 -1.
The match started at a fairly slow pace, with well-organized Auxerrois who were able to demonstrate efficiency in defense. The Marseillais had several chances to score, but lacked realism in front of goal.
It was finally Auxerre who opened the scoring in the 58th minute thanks to a goal from Romain Philippoteaux, well served by Hamza Sakhi. The Marseillais continued to push to equalize, but struggled to find the fault in the opposing defense.
It was in the 75th minute that Olympique de Marseille finally managed to score thanks to a goal from Dimitri Payet, who headed in a cross from Pol Lirola. Two minutes later, the Marseillais hit the nail on the head with a second goal signed Arkadiusz Milik, with an unstoppable cross shot.
Despite the reduction of Auxerre’s score in the 89th minute through Birama Touré, OM managed to hold on until the final whistle to win 2-1. This victory allows the Marseillais to consolidate their 5th place in the standings and to get closer to qualifying for a European competition.
Note the return to the starting lineup of Chancel Mbemba, who was unfortunately replaced in the 71st minute. Marseille fans hope that this victory will allow the team to continue their momentum and end the season in style.
