In a statement, the IOC said that Eleni Pollak was excluded from the Paris Olympics due to a positive sample.
The EOE had been informed by EOCAN of a positive sample on the same day as its pole vault qualifier, in which Pollack competed, but failed to qualify for the final. Pollack had cleared 4.20 meters, but in the official results she was given a DQ, as she was disqualified from the Olympics.
Pollack herself, with her statements after the match, had confirmed that she had been informed about the positive sample, but she had emphasized that it was below the relevant limit and had attributed it to the consumption of red meat in the days before the Games.
«Three days ago something was found in my urine, which was made of meat. It was well below the permissible limit that was found, which is why I was not disqualified. I have an issue with my iron and have to eat red meat every day, but these had the substance found in my urine. It probably happened in the Netherlands. This comes to mind. I ate grilled meat there. I was told that this substance found in my urine helps animals grow faster. I believe that if the substance had been found two days earlier, I might have been disqualified. It has really become dangerous what we eat,” Pollack had argued in this regard.
