Galvão Bueno is an esthete. The broadcast of the opening ceremony of the Olympics on Globo is always a separate event — literally, because the scenes we follow in the images almost never have to do with what is being discussed by the narrator and commentators.
While the channels specialized in sports, Sportv and Bandsports, seek to bring detailed information about the countries that are parading through the screen, Bueno and his friends create absolutely parallel narratives, in order to immerse the viewer in the emotions of the competition.
An especially picturesque episode caught attention this morning. Excited about the possibilities of the Brazilian delegation, Galvão asked his colleagues to bet on the number of medals that the country will bring from Tokyo.
Everything was going well until Daiane dos Santos launched the braba: 22 podiums. It brought down the emotion seller in a way I hadn’t seen in a long time.
Galvão dedicated time and energy to build his guess. After hours of study, he arrived at precisely 22 medals. Then Daiane bet that number before him. In the next few minutes, somewhat confused, the narrator exposed all his rationale and did a live reengineering so as not to share a pool that doesn’t even exist.
It seemed important for the feeling crooner to position himself as the most optimistic member of the broadcast, but in a well-grounded and well-structured way. When Daiane threatened to switch to 24, the tension in the air was tangible.
The former gymnast did not appear again in the coverage of the ceremony until the closing of this text. He tried to make a comment minutes after the imbroglio, but was promptly interrupted by Galvão to show a rerun of the brief passage of the Brazilian delegation.
We return at any time with new information.
