Kateřina Minařík Kudějová from the Czech Republic.
Kateřina Minařík Kudějová was unexpectedly absent in the fight for medals, who, after a night of medical indisposition, took 15th place in the semifinals and did not make it into the top ten. The 31-year-old Czech competitor did not improve her position from Rio, where she was tenth five years ago.
The final was dominated by 29-year-old Funk, who already showed a fast ride in the semifinals, but twice touched the goal. In the fight for medals, however, she showed a clean ride at her Olympic premiere and celebrates life success. The flawless performance also helped Chourraut to second place, completing a collection of Olympic medals. It was golden in Rio, third four years earlier in London.
The race for twenty-seven-year-old Fox, who has so far reigned on the Kasai Channel, ended in disappointment. Although she showed the fastest ride in the final, four penalty seconds pushed her to third position. The seven-time world champion in kayaking and canoeing is still waiting for Olympic gold. She repeated the placement from Rio, from London 2012 she has silver. He will have another chance at the Olympic premiere of the C1 discipline.
Slovak Eliška Mintálová, who was second in the semifinals, fared even worse. In the final, she missed goal number 18 and finished ninth.
Before the finals
Kudějová, who was sixth in the qualification, had problems on the Kasai channel today practically from the very beginning and her ride was far from ideal. The 2015 world champion and last year’s European champion also received a two-second penalty for touching goal number 23, but even without it she would be eliminated. Immediately after reaching the finish line, Minařík Kudějová was tenth and knew that she would not improve the tenth place from the previous Olympics in Rio. In the end, as expected, she was surpassed by all five other kayakers.
The excellent form was confirmed by Foxová, who drove a flawless ride and beat the second Eliška Mintalová from Slovakia by 3.33 seconds. Ricarda Funk from Germany was also third with four penalty seconds.
