Olympic Games: Tsitsipas lost to Djokovic’s ghost (Video) – 2024-08-02 12:36:30

The opportunity of his life for an Olympic medal was lost by Stefanos Tsitsipas, with his loss to the injured Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in Paris: 3-6, 6-7 (3).

The Greek tennis player squandered a wide lead in the second set and was defeated by his more experienced opponent, while closing in on the door to the semi-finals.

Djokovic took advantage of the only break opportunity in the first set and won it 6-3 without much difficulty. The second set began with a counterattack by Tsitsipas, which took him to 4-0, at the same time that his opponent appeared to feel discomfort in his knee and sought medical attention.

However, Tsitsipas squandered three set points at 5-3 and the lead evaporated. The set went to a tiebreak, where the Greek tennis player led 2-0, but conceded four unanswered points and lost touch.

In tomorrow’s semi-final, Djokovic will face the Italian Lorenzo Muzzetti. The other ticket to Sunday’s final will be contested by Spain’s Carlos Alcarath and Canada’s Felix Auxerre-Aliassim.

The match took place at the packed Philippe Chatrier court, where the unforgettable 2021 Roland Garros final was also held. Tsitsipas then led 2-0, but Djokovic won the next three sets to claim the title. The Greek tennis player has not come so close to a Grand Slam title since then.
