Olympic Games (Karate): A golden first for Steven Da Costa

The karateka of Meurthe-et-Moselle did not miss the opportunity to win the most beautiful medals this Thursday August 5 at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Steven Da Costa, 24, 2018 world champion, European champion, from Meurthe-et-Moselle, knew that the opportunity presented to him was not to be missed, knowing that karate was making its entry into the worlds. In its -67 kg category, karateka was also the favorite and did not disappoint. Having reassured himself in the semifinals against Kazakh Darkhan Assadilov, he then did not go half-way in the final against Turkish Eray Samdan (5-0).

Steven Da Costa thus completes his record with this Olympic title, the 26th medal for the French delegation this Thursday, August 5, 2021, before that of Kevin Mayer in the decathlon.
