The young Slovak hockey player Juraj Slafkovský survives a goal throw at the Winter Olympics in Beijing. The 17-year-old Košice has already scored four goals and, together with the Swede Lucas Wallmark, is the leader of the scorer table. Slafkovský threw the bad luck he had at the World Championships in Riga 2021 behind his head, and from now on every opponent will have to be very careful.

He was originally nominated for the 2022 Olympic Games in order to gain valuable experience in senior hockey. As a member of the fourth attack, he was to be in charge of defending the opponent’s elite players rather than scoring goals, but in the end it fired differently.
The talented young man successfully introduced himself in the first match of Slovakia against Finland. He managed to be entered in the shooting list even twice and became the youngest shooter at the Olympic Games since 1984.
“If someone had told me before the Olympics that I was going to score goals here, I would just laugh. It’s happening now and I’m really surprised. I’ve come here with other tasks, but so far goal shooting works very well.” stated Slafkovský according to the information system ZOH 2022.
After two goals in the Finnish net, Slafkovský scored a single goal in a 1: 4 loss to the Swedes, but he also scored in the first Slovak triumph in the tournament against the Latvians (5: 2). In this match, he increased to 3: 1, so he scored the winning goal. The Canadian coach of the Slovak national hockey team, Craig Ramsay, is also impressed by the performance of his client.
“Incredible, not only is he tall (192 cm), he also has dexterous hands. I like his style of play. He’s not a slow snail given his height. He proves everyone that he’s a great skater. I wish he’d score one goal “he has already given them four and in every match,” evaluated Ramsay, for whom it is the second Olympics about the Slovak team at the coaching level.
“He’s a great teammate and hockey player. We’re very happy to be here with us. He has a big advantage in how strong and tall he is. He covers the puck well, young boys don’t show that often.” said Tomáš Jurčo, a teammate of Slafkovsky.

Slovak coach Ramsay has played more than 1,000 games in a prestigious overseas profile, and experts are also predicting a bright future in the NHL for Slafkovsky.
