Seven years later, she unveiled her first songs in H.E.R. Volume 1. In the fall of 2018, she truly rose to fame when she was nominated in five categories at the 2019 Grammy Awards. At the end of the ceremony, she walked away with the coveted awards for Best R&B Album and Best Performance. Also involved in the fight for African-American rights, her song “I Can’t Breathe”in tribute to George Floyd, killed by a white police officer in 2020, was named song of the year in 2021.
