Berlin shows color: In view of the UEFA ban on colorful rainbow-colored lighting in the Munich European Championship arena, a clear sign against homophobia and diversity came from Berlin at least on Wednesday evening.
The Olympic Stadium shone in bright colors just in time for the kick-off of the European Championship game of the German national team against Hungary at 9 p.m. – but they were hardly to be seen before dark.
First of all, the sun had to set quite picturesquely over the Olympic Stadium.
Around 10.30 p.m., however, it was clearly visible: A colorful signal in the Berlin night in the direction of Hungary, the parliament last week approved a law that restricts the information rights of young people with regard to homosexuality and transsexuality.
Some Berliners gathered in front of the stadium to see the illumination up close.
The rainbow colors could also be seen elsewhere in the city on Wednesday, for example here at the radio tower.
The flag was also waved at the Representation of the European Commission in Berlin. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen takes decisive action against a Hungarian law.
According to the head of the commission, the legal concerns about the law will be detailed in a letter to the Hungarian government. If Hungary does not refute the allegations, the Brussels authority is likely to initiate infringement proceedings against the country after the law comes into force. (Tsp)
