After the tussle with Panaitolikos and the defeats against Ari and Lyon, Olympiacos with many changes came back to win 2-0 against Atromitos in the 6th matchday of the Super League at “G. Karaiskakis”
Luis Medilibar (deified by the crowd when his name was heard over the loudspeakers of the stadium) presented Olympiakos with an extended rotation as he had 7 changes in the eleven with three youngsters in the starting formation (Mouzakitis, Kostoulas, Apostolopoulos), while he placed in a position of right striker Rodiney with the Portuguese Costinia behind him.
The “red and white” dominated the first half, created dangers in Peristeri’s defense without, however, having the classic opportunity for a goal in another match. In fact, they needed the help of the visitors to reach the goal in the 40th minute. On a charge from Apostolopoulos, Bronson tried to clear on his own but he “chaffed”, he gave height to the ball on the way to the small area of his team. There, Houtesiotis tried to chase with his fists in front of Velde, but instead of the ball, he caught air and knocked down the striker of the home team. Rodinei took the penalty awarded in the 40th minute and opened the score (1-0). At the same time, Atromitos (he had the support of 150 organized fans on the field) although he defended well, he could not keep the ball, while the few times he tried to enter the opponent’s area, he did not have a clear mind in the final pass.
In the second half, Olympiacos pressured Atromitos and in the 53rd minute Rodinei’s volley hit the crossbar of Houtesiotis. In the 61st minute, Costinia’s shot was impressively blocked by the goalkeeper of Atromitos. In the 68th minute, Kostinia’s cross found the crossbar and in the 74th minute, El Kaabi made it 2-0 with great energy and perfect placement from Mouzakitis’ vertical ball.
In the 79th minute, Atromitos missed his first chance of the match, but Tzolakis saved the ball from Iupitanas. In the 90th minute, Houtesiotis defeated Tsikinios in a four-on-one match and the 2-0 remained until the end.
