BFrom a German perspective, the ball sports teams are once again in the spotlight at the Olympic Games in Paris on Wednesday. The basketball and handball teams are both fighting for a place in the semi-finals – both teams will face France. A boxer wants to reach the final in front of a special crowd. The chances of a medal are looking rather slim.

The highlights of the Olympic Day

1:30 p.m.: The women’s handball team was knocked out by France, now it’s the men’s turn. The starting position is much better. In the preliminary round, the team of national coach Alfred Gislasson impressed with four wins from five matches. That was enough for the surprising group victory. Host France, with handball veteran Nikola Karabatic, should be particularly spurred on by the fans in the separate football stadium in Lille after a weak preliminary round.

18:00: The German basketball team is taking part in the Olympics for the first time ever and can hope for a medal. However, the team coached by national coach Lisa Thomaidis is an underdog against host France. A win could mean a repeat of the duel with European champions Belgium in the semi-finals. Germany surprisingly won the preliminary round in Lille.

Whether Franziska Brauße, Mieke Kröger, Lisa Klein and Laura Süßemilch even make it to the decisive runs will only be decided in the morning in the round of the last eight. Germany won Olympic gold in Tokyo, but this time other nations are more likely to be the favorites. The men have already been eliminated.
