This argument is getting crazier and crazier!
The starting runner of our 4×400 meter mixed relay Jean Paul Bredau (25) and his girlfriend Luna Bulmahn (24) have restricted the comment function under one of their joint Instagram posts.
The couple is probably reacting to some hate messages they received after their elimination in the preliminary round of our mixed relay.

What happened? Bredau had a disastrous race as the first runner and handed over the baton to Olympic star Alica Schmidt (25) as the last runner.
What’s interesting is that the 400 meters were over 1.7 seconds slower than his best time of the year. Coincidence? Some Instagram users apparently don’t believe that. Many accuse Bredau of deliberately not giving his best performance because his girlfriend didn’t get a place in the relay.

Bredau: “Not everything went perfectly beforehand. That’s why we didn’t have the energy. Some decisions were made that not everyone approved.” He didn’t go into detail. But it seems to be about the line-up of the relay team – in which his girlfriend didn’t get a place.
Before her teammates started, Bulmahn wrote on Instagram: “Yes, I am the second fastest 400 meter athlete on paper. No, I was not nominated for the mixed relay.”

It is possible that she is criticizing Schmidt’s nomination. Compared to Demes (51.63 seconds) and Bulmahn (51.72), Schmidt (52.18) ran about half a second slower this year.

But the truth is that without the Instagram star (5 million followers) the relay team would not be at the Olympics. Schmidt was part of the team that secured a place in the qualifications for the relay world championships in the Bahamas in May. She was also by far the fastest runner in the women’s relay at the European Championships in Rome in June, with a strong time of 50.81 seconds.
