FC Barcelona player Dani Olmo will be out of the team for around five weeks due to a hamstring injury that he sustained in the Catalan derby in the fifth round of LaLiga EA Sports against Girona FC, at the Estadi de Montilivi, which ended with a 1-4 victory for ‘culers’.
“Tests carried out on Monday morning 16 September have shown that player Dani Olmo has suffered an injury to the femoral biceps of his right thigh. The approximate time he will be out will be between 4 and 5 weeks,” the club announced in a statement.
Bad news for German Hansi Flick, who loses the big signing of the summer and one of the pieces that had been giving him the best performance at the start of the season, with five wins in as many league games and with 3 goals from Olmo in their 3 matches played.
The player from Terrassa has scored in his first three games as a ‘culer’, a “status unseen since 2011” according to the club. After missing the first two games against Valencia and Athletic Club due to not being registered, he will now have to return to the stands while he recovers from this injury.
If the best predictions are met and he can recover in four weeks, Dani Olmo will miss the first two Champions League games, against Monaco and Young Boys, and the following four league games – Villarreal, Getafe, Osasuna and Alavés.
However, if the absence is extended to five weeks plus the subsequent adaptation, the match against Sevilla in Barcelona on October 20 is in jeopardy, as well as two key matches at the start of the campaign: against Bayern Munich at home in the third round of the Champions League (October 23) and the Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 26-27.
