Ollongren raised expectations with natural gas-free neighborhoods Inland

For example, the D66 minister has spent 150 million euros on the Natural Gas-Free Areas Program. The goal was to make over 2,000 homes free of natural gas by the end of last year. “In practice, these were only a few houses,” says the Court. “It seems that at the start of the program there was a ‘money-seeking plan’.”

To get money, municipalities had to have an advanced plan. The Court of Auditors wonders whether those plans would not have gone ahead without a ditch subsidy from The Hague. Ollongren also used several reasons in her letters to parliament about why she wants to disconnect districts from natural gas. The researchers have now lost the thread about which goals the minister pursues, which ones do not or no longer.
