Already on Monday, the Swedish World Cup team will gather in Halmstad to recharge before the championship on home soil.
With just days to go before the match, national team captain Glenn Solberg is now forced to change his squad. The reason? Karl Wallinius will not play due to injury.
– I had a dialogue with Karl and he is struggling with pain and not one hundred percent. Obviously it’s sad for him to lose a championship on home soil, but we also need to have players who can give their all, Solberg says in a press release.
Forssell Schefvert replaces
Instead, Solberg now opts to pick a national team rookie into the squad in the form of 29-year-old Olle Forsell Schefvert.
– Olle is precious and useful for a team with quality both in defense and forward and deserves a chance in the national team.
The left winger, who normally plays in the German Rhein-Neckar Löwen, was surprised after the conversation by the national team captain.
– Better late than never. Of course I was shocked when I got the call, but I’m very happy and proud. Not many people get to live a championship and even fewer get to make it at home.
The Handball World Cup begins on 11 January.
