The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, is to go to the bedside of the North West Hospital of Villefranche-sur-Saône, on Monday February 22, in the company of the Secretary of State in charge of the digital transition, Cédric O, following the cyberattack suffered by the establishment on February 15.
The cyberattack that hit the North West Hospital of Villefranche-sur-Saône on February 15 caused widespread reactions to the highest peak in the state. Emmanuel Macron spoke with the management of the hospital on the morning of February 18, by videoconference, before announcing a vast plan on cybersecurity in France.
A week after the attack, on Monday February 22, Olivier Véran, Minister of Health and Cédric O, Secretary of State in charge of the digital transition, will come, on site, to discuss with management.
A trip expected of firm footing by the CGT of the establishment which requested a meeting before the cyberattack. The union hopes that “This visit will allow him [Olivier Véran] to take the measure of this more disaster for the public hospital which is already doing so badly in normal times“.
The CGT points to the work overload caused by the shutdown of the hospital’s computer system: the medical secretaries who will have to catch up with the backlog of medical reports, a single photocopier that can be used throughout the hospital, the number of procedures papers that have multiplied for caregivers … The whole has very concrete consequences on the functioning of the hospital, the firefighters are diverted from Villefranche, 16 patients are received in intensive care instead of 18 in normal times.
Consequently, the CGT asks “immediate reinforcements in each department for the quality of the care provided and to avoid staff exhaustionThe union is also asking for means to avoid having to suffer from similar attacks in the future and a massive training plan funded by the state and the ARS.
